What I do

Every year and a half, I challenge myself to create and produce a new (solo) performance. Most of my attention goes to the division of what is fake versus real and this reflects in the subjects of my work. I observe how we as bodies interact and deal with society. I use dance as a medium to explore the necessity of movement and physical activity for humans to grow (body) awareness; But also to share the joy and beauty of movement, moving and being moved.

Feel free to get in touch, I love collaborating and performing with other artists.
My work is supported by C-TAKT (B), DansBrabant (NL), Makershuis Tilburg (NL)

With a lot of experience and background in dance, movement and choreography, I love to coach people in developing their own movement language. During commissioned artistic work or workshops, I guide and motivate people to move from their original ideas towards research, prototyping, composition and finally performance. During this process I help to stretch habitual moving and thinking patterns, whilst always emphasizing the space and option to stay close and true to ourselves.

What others think

Same Self Defined, 29 Years Later from Judith Clijsters is not about the extremes of the body but about pure being. She gives you the experience of time to really observe and absorb. You see softness and fluidity interrupted with sharp split second movements which seem to be the start of changing direction. She creates a soft, thoughtful yet very strong movement quality. In this solo, she reflects together with you as an audience about the self. Alone, together.

I appreciate Judith Clijsters for her individuality and commitment to her work.

What I find interesting about Judith, is her unrelenting search for her own artistic language. Constantly rethinking, always alert for what happens around her. Dance is the perfect way for Judith to reflect on the world of today. She has a sincere openness for new challenges, new collaborations with other artists.

Judith. Always positive, sensitive and able to connect with others on many levels. I believe that in her artistic research and observations, she naturally reaches beyond the self and aims to connect to the bigger picture

After studying at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance and touring with Phoenix Dance Theatre in the UK, Judith moved back to Belgium (Antwerp) where she completed a course in production of performing arts at DeSingel. This  increased her potential as a producer to continue and share her passion for moving bodies. By performing, creating, teaching and coaching Judith stays inspired to keep growing through movement.

Judith Clijsters isn’t just someone who constructs and performs a dance movement. She observes. More specifically, she observes the connections we have to our bodies and how we use them. This reflects very strongly yet elegantly in her work.

Judith is artist in residence at C-TAKT (B) and Makershuis Tilburg (NL). She created Dagbreek (2012), Beautiful Self (2013), Same Self Defined (2015), Bored To Death (2017- still touring in 2019) and Lichtzucht (2018). She is now in creation for a new piece which will premiere in 2020.

Alongside her independent work, she loves to choreograph commissioned work with semi-professionals, youth groups or amateurs (works like Moondays 2015, Holding Space 2016, You Are My Surface 2017, Rhythm Got Girls 2018). Also in this context she is artistic coordinator for Passerelle, platform for dance, since 2018.

Yoga became a daily practice as a dancer in the UK. She deepened her practice and found a true interest in teaching yoga to others when she completed the Antwerp Yoga Vinyasa Teacher Training course in 2015. She teaches at the Bachelor Dance department at the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp and is part of the team at Antwerp Yoga and Yoga Pili.
